1. Enviroscaping

           

Enviroscaping is more than an environmentally conscious way of doing landscaping. It incorporates various considerations and techniques that start with the design and planning process, including : site and soil analysis, position and form of structures, plant selections and grouping, soil, compost and mulches, and lawn size.

At HABITAT we offer both a traditional design service and our increasingly popular Visual Graphic Design service. The Visual Graphic Design incorporates the essential elements of a traditional design, but offers the client a photo realistic and 3 Dimensional option, where the landscape can be modified and altered at the click of a button. CONSTRUCTION

Without the proper implementation and construction methods even the best design can go unfulfilled. At HABITAT we have the experience and innovation to bring out the best of both traditional designs and contemporary visually enhanced designs. We provide an after-care service and guarantee all our work.

HABITAT's landscape construction service is frequently booked months in advance and early booking is essential.

2. Organic Programs

HABITAT offers only 100% organic programs. To be able to serve you best, each organic program can be customized, and will include one or more of the elements outlined below:

• Site and Soil Analysis
  
• Spring Specific Organic Fertilization: This organic fertilizer is formulated specifically for spring conditions. It is higher in nitrogen than summer or fall fertilizers, encouraging early leaf development or ‘greening up' of the lawn. Early leaf development is important for plants to start photosynthesis and replenish depleted root resources.
• Summer Sustain Organic Fertilization: The summer organic fertilizer is formulated to provide lawn grass with all the essential nutrients for the frequently difficult summer months. The formulation is a bit lower in nitrogen content than the spring application, but with a higher phosphorous content, to stimulate leaf as well as root growth.
• Fall Root-Prep Organic Fertilization: This formulation contains the highest phosphorous content. The fertilizer stimulates root development before winter and provides lawn grass plants with all the essential nutrients it needs to store to give it a good start in the spring.
• Overseeding: Overseeding is an important part of a complete natural organic lawn care regime. By filling in bare spots or areas of spares growth with desired lawn grasses helps to prevent unwanted species and weeds. Different areas on a property might need different grass species or mixtures.
• Aeration: Aeration is a mechanical process used to loosen compacted soil, allowing better air, water and nutrient penetration and resulting in better root development. Regular aeration benefits lawns, particularly in areas of high use or clay-based soils.
• Top-dressing, Composting and Mulching: Top-dressing is the addition of a 1 - 3 cm layer of soil to the surface of the existing lawn. The soil should be rich in organic matter, such as mushroom compost or black peat to help correct problems such as low organic matter content in the soil, high thatch development rates, compaction, weed problems and pH imbalance. Top-dressing that are as high as 60 or 70 percent organic matter add millions of soil microbes, and soil structure is improved so that water and nutrients will be retained and made more accessible to the plants. Top-dressing also enhances seed germination. Organic mulches are vital to a healthy landscape and serve many purposes. They insulate the soil, keeping the soil an even temperature, reduce evaporation, suppress weed growth, and as they decompose they add nutrients to the soil.
• De-Thatching: De-thatching removes all the old surface debris, enabling the grass to 'breathe' better and nutrients to actually penetrate the soil and reach the roots. De-thatching will also encourage better and faster germination of grass seeds when overseeding is done.

4. Snow Blowing 

Over the last number of years HABITAT's comprehensive snow clearing service has been recognized as the best in the industry, with the result that this service is often being booked to capacity well in advance. Residential laneways are serviced by compact tractors equipped with snowblowers. We are comprehensively insured, registered and licensed.

5. Additional Services

Lawn Renovation or Replacement     Improve and revitalize that open space!

 There are a few options available when it comes to traditional lawn areas in need of repair. The area can be: turfed (sodded); repaired by way of aeration/de-thatching and the addition of topsoil, seed and fertilizer; transformed into garden space; renovated with a low-maintenance groundcover.

Turfing (sodding) is ideal where the area will be maintained as traditional lawn and rapid results are important. Apart from watering, little or no after care is necessary. Proper preparation and compaction is essential. At HABITAT we use only thick-cut quality turf from reputed local growers.

Lawn renovation or repairing of damaged areas by way of aeration/de-thatching and the addition of topsoil, seed and fertilizer is a slower process requiring more after care, however there is greater freedom in the choice of grass species.

Groundcovers are ideal where traditional lawns are to high maintenance, cannot be established or are not desirable. There are a variety of groundcovers available of which Dutch white clover is definitely a favourite.
